La notte più importante dell’industria videoludica ha emesso il suo verdetto: durante la cerimonia dei The Game Awards 2025 (noti anche come GOTY), la seconda stagione di The Last of Us, prodotta da HBO, ha trionfato portandosi a casa l’ambito premio nella categoria Best Adaptation. Questo riconoscimento non certifica soltanto il successo commerciale della serie, ma sancisce la riuscita di una delle sfide più complesse mai affrontate nella storia degli adattamenti transmediali: trasporre sul piccolo schermo gli eventi dolorosi, divisivi e potentissimi del secondo capitolo del videogioco creato da Naughty Dog. La vittoria sottolinea come la visione degli showrunner Craig Mazin e Neil Druckmann sia riuscita a toccare le corde giuste, mantenendo intatto lo spirito dell’opera originale pur espandendone l’universo per il pubblico televisivo.

La vittoria nella categoria di Miglior Adattamento di The Last of Us 2

Vincere il premio come Miglior Adattamento per questa specifica stagione ha un peso specifico enorme, ben superiore a quello della prima annata. Se il viaggio iniziale di Joel ed Ellie era una classica storia di formazione on the road, la trama di The Last of Us Parte II è nota per essere un racconto brutale sulla vendetta, sul ciclo dell’odio e sulle conseguenze delle proprie azioni.

Gli episodi hanno saputo gestire, pur con numerose polemiche che non sono mancate (e che hanno avuto riflessi anche ai Golden Globe, dove The Last of Us 2 è assente) i salti temporali e i cambi di prospettiva che caratterizzano la struttura del racconto, offrendo una profondità psicologica ancora maggiore ai personaggi secondari e alle fazioni in guerra, come il WLF (Washington Liberation Front) e i Serafiti.

Non si può parlare di questa vittoria senza citare le performance attoriali che hanno reso credibile ogni singolo istante di tensione e dramma. Il ritorno di Pedro Pascal nei panni di Joel e l’evoluzione di Bella Ramsey in una Ellie più adulta, indurita e tormentata sono stati i pilastri su cui si è retta l’intera impalcatura emotiva della stagione. Tuttavia, l’attenzione della critica e del pubblico si è concentrata anche sulle nuove aggiunte al cast, in particolare su Kaitlyn Dever, che ha avuto l’arduo compito di interpretare Abby, un personaggio che richiede una fisicità e una complessità emotiva straordinarie.
